Free images for commercial use – a short guide

In case you are looking for high-quality photos that you can upload on your site, but you don’t want to spend money on these photos, you should look for specialized websites/platforms that provide free images for commercial use.

While it’s true that there are dozens of websites that have offers like this, it is also true that most of them have low-quality images. In addition, there are many websites that have images with confusing licenses which mean that you can put your website in danger in the future. Keep in mind that using licensed photos without permission can lead to lawsuits or other legal issues. In order to stay safe, you should look for images that have Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license or any image that comes with clear permission to use it for free for commercial purposes. So, what are some of the best places to find free images for commercial use?

Unsplash

Unsplash is an excellent place for getting public domain images. This may not be the site with the highest number of free images, but the ones found there have excellent quality and the search feature on the website works great. In addition, Unsplash provides collections of images for those looking for more than one theme-related photo. Registered users are free to make collections. Unsplash also has a WordPress plugin that can help you find and upload images on your WP-powered website easily.

Gratisography

This is one of the fastest growing websites for free images today. But, this is not a classic platform for free images. Namely, all the photos found there were captured by one person – Ryan McGuire, a professional photographer. Don’t expect to find many features and options on this website, but the photos are of great quality and downloading them is a straightforward process.

StockSnap

StockSnap is an online platform packed with many interesting photos with CC0 license. It has a myriad of features available to users and all the images are carefully categorized in different categories. It is possible for users to add tags and authors when they are looking for images. Becoming a member of this website is free and makes the process of searching for photos easier.

SkitterPhoto

Finally, there’s SkitterPhoto which was created by Dutch amateur photographers. The project that started a few years ago now has an impressive collection of great free images for commercial use.
